After everything they went through in the first book, it starts to get better then worse. First the Baudelaire's parents died a in a fire they burned down their mansion and they are taken into Count Olaf's care. Count Olaf is a horrible man that wants to steal the Baudelaire's fortune.
But when the Baudelaire's are taken into Uncle Monty's care things start to get a lot better. Uncle Monty is really nice and is not at all cruel like Count Olaf. But soon Count Olaf is back trying to ruin their lives again.
